I see various forms of myself in his work.

I came across this image last summer at the NPG BP portrait award, the size of the canvas and the intensity of the subjects made me catch my breath.

There are 3 places I lose track of time, (actually there are 4 but I wont mention the 4th as I don’t want to give my blog a parental advisory rating)  book stores, CD stores and TK Maxx. So one of my fav places is Brent Cross as there is a huge borders book store next to a TK Maxx, but alas the Borders is closing down.

Cut a long story short I spent 2 hours in Borders and bought one book for £5.99, but it was worth my time. Illustration Now published by Taschen who specialise in affordable art books, with the closing down discount, I believe I got a bargain.

I recognised some of the artist immediately and found a few new ones whose style I can appreciate.

The first page I opened fell upon Satoshi Matsuzawa, a Japanese artist inspired by 60s and 70s soul jazz and funk,  clearly visible in his artistry. Visit his web site at www.Salboma.Com

Not in Willard Wigan’s world, he can get anything through the eye of a needle, micro sculptor creating highly detailed figures so minute by hand, microscopes are required to view his work.

I have always been impressed by Slinkachus work, but this is trully amazing. He has been known to accidently inhale sculptures. 

Collectors include the Obamas, Tyson and Elton John.

I have missed out yet again on a fab print, by a great artist of a great man. There is one on Ebay for $695,worth it, but with Xmas, the credit crunch and home improvements, this will pass me by.

I have always admired David Choes work and have tried to buy one of his prints before with no success. I will keep my eyes open in the new year.

I love hip hop, hence I have had my fill of oversexualised black women…… but I will be joining this revoulution.

I have recently found and spent alot of time at I am the Nublack, it is the kind of blog mine should be if I were a little more organised. My one major gripe is, it has cost me money, I have since bought two things featured there a print and a T shirt.

Now this may have something to do with the fact that I was online quite late in the day, tired = easily persuaded to part with cash.

The print I absolutely adore, it reminded me immediately of signs outside an African barber shop, which is what inspired the artist Andrea Pippin. I also liked the colours allot, the green is the colour of my living room accent wall, painted because a friend declared my flat the color of mud! rude cow, I believe what she meant to say was my flat is neutral, brown, beiges, whites and black; I still love her.

The reason for my colour scheme is, I want to fill my walls with colourful prints .

Now this particular print ticks all boxes, stylish, colourful, quirky and best of all great value, I was going to say cheap, but there is nothing cheap about it.

I would love to say get yourself one, sorry sold out, they went on sale on November 16th! I just hope I get mine!!
